Covers manufacturing defects in the shingles themselves, but not installation errors. Most roofing problems come from installation issues, which is why we recommend upgrading to System Plus or Golden Pledge.

Why Workmanship Warranty Matters

Most roofing failures aren't from bad shingles—they're from bad installation.

Common Installation Issues

  • Improper nail placement causing shingle blow-offs
  • Poor flashing around vents, pipes, and chimneys
  • Inadequate ventilation leading to premature aging
  • Incorrect starter strip installation
  • Missing ice and water shield in critical areas

What Workmanship Warranty Covers

  • All labor costs to fix installation errors
  • Replacement materials if needed
  • Leak repairs from installation defects
  • Interior damage from covered leaks
  • Full tear-off if major issues arise

Warranty FAQ

What's the difference between manufacturer and workmanship warranties?

Manufacturer warranties cover defects in the roofing materials themselves—like shingles that crack or granules that fall off prematurely. Workmanship warranties cover installation errors—like improper flashing, poor ventilation, or nail placement issues. Most roofing problems are actually installation-related, which is why workmanship coverage matters.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell my home?

Yes, GAF warranties are transferable to new homeowners within the coverage period. This adds value to your home when selling. You'll need to register the transfer with GAF—we can help with the paperwork.

What voids a roofing warranty?

Common warranty voids include: unauthorized repairs or modifications, improper ventilation, pressure washing the roof, walking on the roof excessively, and failure to maintain (like not clearing debris). Normal wear from Texas weather doesn't void warranties.

How do I file a warranty claim?

Contact us first—we'll inspect the issue and determine if it's covered. For manufacturer claims, we handle the paperwork with GAF. For workmanship issues covered under Golden Pledge or System Plus, we come out and fix it at no cost to you.

Why can only GAF Master Elite contractors offer Golden Pledge?

GAF only trusts their strongest warranty to their most qualified contractors. Master Elite status requires proven installation excellence, ongoing training, proper licensing, and financial stability. This protects GAF and ensures homeowners get quality work.

Does warranty cover storm damage?

No—warranties cover material defects and installation issues, not weather damage. Storm damage is covered by your homeowner's insurance. However, if poor installation contributes to storm damage (like improperly sealed flashing), that installation issue may be covered.
